I.                    DAY 1 - INTRODUCTION

a.       Students access Project wiki

b.      Meet teammates Project Page

c.       Create Terminology Page

d.      Create Project Page

II.                  DAY 2 - PART I

a.       Students access instructions from Lesson Website

b.      Students search online resources regarding data transmission

c.       Students access resources relevant to data transmission 

d.      Terminology will include

                                                               i.      analog

                                                             ii.      binary

                                                            iii.      bit

                                                           iv.      byte

                                                             v.      digital

e.      Students will be asked to identify state of each binary digit, ie: on or off, define terms in their own words

f.        Various online resources will be employed for instruction  and assessment:

                                                               i.      Discussion

                                                             ii.      Internet graphics

                                                            iii.      Internet based Q and A Forum

                                                           iv.      Internet Based Video

                                                             v.      Internet-Based Quizzes for polling

III.                DAY 3  - PROJECT I

a.       Students will access Internet resources to record binary characters to represent alphanumeric characters

b.      Students will create license plate representing them with binary character

c.       Students will be encouraged to personalize their plate with design and graphics tools

d.      Though this exercise is to be completed individually, students with extensive computer experience will be encouraged to assist other students in their area of expertise as lab assistants through the project wiki

IV.                DAY 4 - PART II

a.       Review data transmission concepts using the following resources:

b.      Internet Graphics

c.       Internet-Based Video

d.      Review of Q and A Forum concepts

e.      The following concepts will be defined and discussed on wiki:

i.        Analog signals, digital signals

ii.       What do “1” and “0” represent in binary?

h.      Compare and contrast how data travels through

                                                               i.      Serial ports

                                                             ii.      Parallel ports

                                                            iii.      USB ports

i.         Why are USB ports faster and more reliable?

V.                  DAY 5 -PROJECT II

a.       Students will view Khan Academy Video regarding Binary Numbers

b.      Students will determine five descriptors that they find defining concepts in their life.

c.       Students will spell the five descriptors in binary and present on a coat of arms template

d.      Students will be given  access to instructions to create a coat of arms

e.      Students will be encouraged to personalize their coat of arms with design and graphics tools

f.        Students will post their coat of arms on project page
